The Schmidlyi´s deermouse (Peromyscus schmidlyi) is found in the states of Sinaloa, Sonora and Durango in the Sierra Madre Occidental of México at altitudes greater than 2,000 m a.s.l.  Individuals are associated with vegetation where pines and oaks predominate in coastal scrub and chaparral.  The species was described in 2004, in honor of David J.
