Abstract

The home ranges of 24 squirrels (Xerospermophilus perotensis) were analyzed and compared in three sampling sites with different degree of ground use in Valle de Perote, Veracruz, México. We found that the largest areas corresponded to the sites with natural vegetation by using the mark-recapture method and calculating the home ranges with minimum convex polygons, In contrast, the number of captures and recaptures were greater and the home ranges were smaller in the site with the greatest ground use. The home ranges of males and females overlapped.Key words: home ranges, mark-recapture, perturbation, Xerospermophilus perotensis.
